Your comment here suggests a deep lack of understanding about what it is to make a living as a writer. You make your living as a CEO. You are on a treadmill. Every day you grind out CEO-ness because it is how you make your living. As writers in this digital Era, the whole career model has not just changed, it has disappeared. Pre-internet a writer would be paid to write by newspapers, magazines, ad agencies, and book publishers. It was not an easy or lucrative career, often, but it was a career and it paid the bills. Today, newsrooms are dead, magazines are dead, online publications expect you to write for free at best, or for the right to write, even, medium. Self publishing requires you to spend more time being an editor and marketing agency than writing. So the question we are all asking is - what is the career model (read business model in today's world) for a writer to actually earn a living writing and how does Medium see itself fitting into that picture. Because if you don't know the answer to that question then it means you're just trying to cover up the fact that your business model is no different than the ad saturated social media platforms that are dependent on an army of free labor to entertain the masses for their own profit. Dangling the carrot of a few measles pennies in front of us and a limited handful of readers is an insult to the intelligence you claim you are trying to curate.
